SIGHTSEEING TOUR DESCRIPTIONS
TOUR 2 - ART LOVERS' DELIGHT MUSEUM TOUR OF NORTHERN BERKSHIRE AND SOUTHERN VERMONT.
The Berkshires is an uncanny destination for great and diversified art to arrive. The wealth of the gilded age, which allowed millionaires to afford collecting great treasures, the grass roots of the New England countryside, or inspiration of new, revolutionary forms of art expression, whatever it might be, has institutionalized itself in the Berkshires and Southern Vermont. This tour is a splendid opportunity to discover great art from different origins.
Please keep in mind that sightseeing programs can be modified, or customized to fit your group's needs.
LET'S GO !
Starting in Williamstown, deservedly called "the Village Beautiful", one can easily see the reasons why. The most conspicuous landmark is the beautiful Ivy League campus of Williams College, founded by Ephraim Williams in the 1700's. It was a mens' college until 1950, when it then became coed. Contained within the bounds of Williamstown is the STERLING AND FRANCINE INSTITUTE OF ART. A guided visit through the museum is the only way one can imagine the multitude of Renaissance, Impressionist and contemporary art can be housed under one roof, for seeing is believing.
Less than 15 miles to the north of Williamstown, lies the historic town of Bennington, Vermont, just in time for lunch. ENJOY A THREE COURSE LUNCH at a fine restaurant before visiting the BENNINGTON MUSEUM. The visit is highlighted by a rich collection of art by GRANDMA MOSES. Prior to departure from Bennington, sightseeing will include the historic Bennington Battle Monument, the historically preserved neighborhood of Old Bennington, and, time permitting a sample look at a covered bridge.

The Congregational Church at Bennington,
Vermont. Robert Frost is buried here.
Cruising along the scenically rich Route 9, return to Massachusetts and the city of North Adams to enjoy a guided visit to the MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART, including a guided tour. The tour concludes with a return to Williamstown or the tour starting point.
